I am just in the process of obtaining a BSS. I was charged £85 although it was parked in a marina that the examiner frequented. I don't however think that he charges differently elsewhere. My boat has no gas system, the battery is stored in the starboard cockpit locker and fuel in the port. He stuck a sticker on the locker with the fuel tank in it, told me I needed a slightly larger fire extinguisher (1kg), I needed to secure the battery and fit an isolator on the battery. The isolator is easy, £5 on eBay for one which fits on the earth terminal and has a brass battery terminal on the end so no wire cutting. Got my engineer mate making me a battery tray and I'll pick up an extinguisher from the chandlers on site. Not as drastic as I was expecting.
