26D Mast Support

Hiya i've recently purchased a mac 26D. It's a great boat, but sadly it need come off the water soon. Going through all the stuff that came with the boat I can't find the mast support for trailing. Could anyone help with dimensions so that I can knock one up. Thanks Dave

Re: 26D Mast Support

Hi David,

welcome to the forum. Where are you based ? I'll take some measurements and pictures when I am back at our boat next weekend (hopefully). Mine is basically a 25 mm straight steel pipe with a roller for the mast to slide on. You could get away with making a support out of wood with a cut in the shape of the mast. When you trailer yours, make sure the mast is fixed not only at the bow but also tied in the middle and at the stern, so it doesn't move sideways. When we moved our boat from Scotland down south the support got bent by the sideways movement of the mast and the mast then crushed down onto the coachroof  .

Thanks that'll be great. I live in Lytham, lancs. But the boat "wind walker" is on Windermere. I can see the two rectangular brackets for the mast support but forgot to take measurements. Although that still wouldn't help with height. I think a previous owner has had a similar issue as the pop top has a nasty crack.
I'm not overly happy with the rig either, although it sails really well the roller jib doesn't! and raising the main from the cockpit is impossible as the sail just doesn't feed into the mast without help, but will wait until I get the boat home next month before bombarding the forum with questions on that.

Re: 26D Mast Support

Hi again,

sorry didn't make to the boat this weekend as my family had other plans. Found a very old picture on my camara. This is the mast support that I have (before it got bent).

With regards to your main sail - do you have a boltrope on your luff, i.e. the side of the sail that feeds into the mast or do you have slugs/sliders ? You will not be able to singlehandedly raise your main from the cockpit if you have a boltrope but will need to feed it into the mast track by hand. Boltrope is supposed to be great for racing, it increases the efficiency of the sail as there is no gap between sail and mast. If you want, you can retrofit slugs/sliders. There are kits available. What type of roller furling do you have ? If yours is CDI then I might be able to help you.
