has anyone fitted an electronic depth/log to a Mac?
I am looking to buy one and fit it myself but have never done anything like before - does the throught the hull installation pose a problem when grtting on and off the trailer (i.e. can it be damaged?)

Hi,
We have a Raymarine L365 Fish finder fitted, does speed, depth, log and seabed type........and of course fish !
The transponder unit sits on the stern just to the side of the rudders at the waterline, it flips up 90deg to preventing it getting knocked when trailering, all wiring enters well above the water line close to the stering cable gland and run up through the inside to the dispaly unit in the cockpit.... Works a treat on rivers and the open sea.

Depth can be fitted inside the hull, log really needs to be a paddle on the back, pref on a plate so you can swing it out of the way if you're going to beach. The above is a pretty good way of doing it. Poor fish haven't got a hance these days have they!
email me if you want some photos of the arrangement. I have posted them somewhere lifetimes ago... not on my site for some reason!
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.
I have a Raymarine ST40 bidata, which is a single display and single transducer for depth/speed/log (also water temp!). I got it because of price, I just checked and it's currently £265 with the transom transducer from jgtech.com. There's two options, one with thru-hulls and one with a single transom unit, so if you go shopping for it make sure you get the right one!
