Does anyone know the dimensions of the MacGregor 26X on the trailor that would be required for a ferry crossing. The trailor is a West Mercea.
We are planning a trip to France with Magic Island for a couple of weeks this summer.
We are thinking of crossing on a ferry from Dover to Calais and driving down to somewhere on the north west coast of France. We would like any tips on this area of France or recommended moorings, slip ways, parking etc.
Alternatively we could plan to launch at Southampton and cross the channel for the first time and would be grateful for any help and advise.

Hello Si and Av
Take a look at back copies of the newsletter (on this website) - we had a rally in Friesland last year and Morbihan, Brittany the year before (and indeed on several previous occasions).
Lots of info about Dover - Calais and of course details of marinas - eg La Trinite is good.
I can let you have some more info.
Are you coming to the AGM?
The proposals for this Summer's main rally are likely to include either Friesland and/or Brittany again - so there may well be a group of us going.
Britanny Ferries will book you as "high special" which essentially means you are like a truck so you will have no problems with dimensions.
Take a look at breakdown cover with Britannia (now under the LV banner) - good cover for trailer and vehicle especially overseas.
Also check out your boat insurance cruising area - may need an extension (often no cost but still needs to be declared).

I book Brittany Ferries as a 4x4 with a 10 metre trailer 4m high. SeaFrance last year was similar.
Adventurous Mac Owners have motored across from Southampton to Cherbourg, but you would need pretty settled weather for the 60 mile crossing both going and returning.
