Martin,
if you don't get any joy from a 26C owner on macgregorowners then try http://www.macgregorsailors.com as this is a US based forum that has been around for many years, with lots of 26C users and has a searchable database which may contain answers for your questions

If it is a SWING BOARD it will depend on the boat year.
1990 - 1992 5402-1C2 CENTERBOARD, SWING, LARGE HOLE
1992 - 1995 5402-1C3 CENTERBOARD, SWING, SMALL HOLE
Also for 233 USD
Some people uses oak to make a replacement centerboard board, but you will need a model and thats expensiv and hard work...

I think if you put in a floating keel you may have problems persuading it to go down?
I would love to see the latest x brackets if you would like to post a photo...
cheers
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.

The Mac X 2000 Rudder Bracket SST
1 - Rudder
2 - Gudgeon
3 - Bracket

The Boat is with our family since 1997 (it represents 12 years of work, fun, memories and wonderful sailing trips)
We bought it new while we where in Macau (Portuguese city near Hong Kong) directly from the factory.
In 2000 we took the boat to Portuguese India (Goa) and in 2002 to Mozambique (Lake Malawi).
In 2005 I was attached to service in Europe and the boat finally arrived home.
About use your/use ours. I believe that it is a great way of traveling light and at very low cost.
And for our boats other Mac owners are the safest ones...
