replacing starter chord on outboard

Hello

My technical language isn't the best but......

I went to my boat on Friday night and started the engine (Honda 8HP) without any problem, several times. I tried again on Saturday morning and the starter chord pulled right through, unraveling completely from the engine. I removed cowl, then the starter drum/spool (picture 1) on top of the engine, and then wrapped the starter chord around the second drum/spool (picture 2) that was revealed. This worked, the engine started and all was well for the day ahead.

However, I tried to re-thread the chord on the drum/spool and couldn't work out how to do it. This morning, I have looked at a you-tube clip or two and think I understand the principles of what's going on but I cannot work out where I thread the chord onto the drum and, presumably, tie a not? that will allow me to load the drum.

I appreciate this is pretty basic stuff for some of you but an idiot's guide would be much appreciated. It's also probably one of those tasks that's easier to demonstrate than to explain.

Hope someone is brave enough to try.....

Thanks

Hi I had a similar problem some time ago with an outboard I cant remember how we fixed it but it did not take long.

Go on You Tube and you will find lots of help there.

Thanks Mike. Actually, no

Thanks Mike. Actually, no videos of the same mechanism as mine on you tube. In the end some disassembling of the turning mechanism was necessary and springs and pins went in all directions but, miraculously, knitted back together. Sorted.
