Is there a preferred position to mount an in-hull (where you don't need to drill the hull) depth sounder. Obviously the water ballast system interferes a bit. Favourite is the foremost floatation chamber in the v-berth at the moment. Has anyone fitted one here and is it low enough in the water to get a reliable signal?

Depth sounder

For those who may face the same problem: the final resting place for my depth sounder is under the wooden panel under the table area. This is nice and level with the keel, should stay submerged unless sailing unnecessarily close to the wind and unlike all the other potential sites, doesn't appear to have any voids or core material in the area.
