separating the stern locker from the main cabin

there is an awful smell of petrol in the main cabin of Poppy that must be coming from the can in the stern locker. on investigation i found that the only thing separating the stern locker from the main cabin is a loose fitting bulkhead which is about as effective as a barrier as a hanging fabric curtain and effectively the stern locker and main cabin are one space so it would be no different if i stored the fuel can in the main cabin. the loose fitting bulkhead has such large gaps around it that it would be nearly impossible to seal it to prevent fumes from passing from the stern locker into the main cabin. has anyone managed to make a barrier to separate these two spaces? the only other way to solve this problem seems to be to keep the fuel can on deck but that has problems too

Hi Jason, not sure if you've managed to do anything about the petrol smell so far. I've come across this link this morning, maybe you'll get some inspiration from it:

Lots of other great ideas for the "Classic" on the same site.

The other thing I've read somewhere else recently is that you could put a dedicated fuel locker under the cockpit seats. You'd have to remove some of the flotation foam, though.
