my 26C does not have tracked cars for the genoa sheets and the fairleads for the sheets are rather haphazard so i am wondering if any boats have tracked cars or what is the usual arrangement for genoa fairleads ?

genoa cars

Hi Jason,
The "S" didn't originally come with genoa tracks. On the American site there are some posts on how to install them:

As I am regarding my Mac as an oversized dinghy with cabin and I don't race (yet ?), I've not seen the need (yet) for genoa tracks. I do understand, though if set up correctly, the headsail can be sheeted in tighter, resulting in a better maximum pointing angle into the wind and a much faster boat. One day, maybe, once I've done all the repairs and mods that are already on my list ....
My set up is very simple. I have one genoa sheet. This is fixed at mid length via a cow hitch to the clew of my genoa. Both ends of the sheet then are lead aft via simple fairleads like this one :

and then go through a sheet organizer towards the rope clutches on either side of the cockpit. When I repaired and reinstalled my furler earlier this year I made sure that my genoa rides high enough above the rails. That used to be my only problem, as it would catch and rub against it. It now works really well.
If you want me to, I can go and measure the position of my fairleads next time I am at the marina.
Best wishes,
I.
thank you Immo I would be interested to know the position of your fair-leads, currently my 2 sheets each go through fair-leads at the base of stanchions just forward of the cockpit, then lead aft to a turning block and then forward again to the winches. your arrangement sounds much neater and far more efficient. Cheers Jason
