Reserve engine

A question or two for Bjorn really. A great idea to mount a small reserve engine on one rudder mounting. As you suggest mainly for river use.

Was it a short shaft version from an inflatable? Have you had time to test it yet ? How did you arrive at the size required ?

Thanks Ray.

Re: Reserve engine

Hi Ray
Just come back from a week on the canal.
I quite liked the 4hp aux.. it did push us along at a good rate, though was noisy. I don't know if short or long.. same length as my spare suzuki 2hp tender jobbie.
I will keep the spare bracket on board with the heavier outboard for future use. In case of emergency it could make all the diffenernce, though at the moment it would take a while to take the rudder and its' bracket off and drop the motorised one in. In a pitching sea?? I'll probly make some mods to my hinge so it can drop onto the existing bracket and leave the rudder in place. That would be a really excellent safety mod.
Why 4hp? It was given to me :D

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.
