Dead Etec 60 - ideas please

Hi Guys, I managed to wind my dinghy painter around my prop at tickover revs the other day whilst picking up my mooring, no problem with the rope, only a few turns which quickly unwound, with no damage, but the motor stalled and won't restart. Apart from the warning beeper when I turn on the key, it will not even turn over, and I wondered if there was some kind of sensor which kills the engine when the prop gets caught in something like a rope, if so does anyone know how to reset it? I had to leave without being able to explore the problem, but when I get down to the boat next, if it still won't turn over, I will try and turn it over manually and see what happens, there could be ignition but not starter current or something?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Paul.
PS I've also posted this Q. on Macregor Sailor as they probably have a bit more experience with Evinrude engines.

OK, to answer my own question and in case it happens to anyone else, although I thought the gearlever was in neutral, it wasn't, so when turning the key, it failed to turn over, a fairly basic problem really, but I always think the worst when engines stop and fail to go through the proper procedures.

The other really obvious thing that doesn't always spring to mind in that moment of panic is to check the "kill switch" (the little red safety "key" that you are meant to clip to yourself but I guess most of us simply leave in the ignition circuit).

So - simple things first - check gear lever, kill switch, fuel line connection and fuel in tank, battery isolator switch. Then you can start worrying!
