Hi a VHF question for all you boffins out there :)
A little while ago my vhf radio started producing a regular repeated whoosh whoosh whoosh noise, when the engine is running.
Fitted a new noise surpresser but no no avail.
The the other day disconnected the deck connection of the VHF aerial and the noise dissappeared. It seems then that the noise is being picked up by the aerial and not the electrical system. All the connections seem OK. Is it possible the aerial itself has gone faulty? Are there any other tests I could do with say a multimeter to check it before I splash out on a new one?
Thanks.
Andy

Hi Just to let you know that I traced the interference to the depthsounder and chartplotter, fitted some ferrite rings and viola! The noise has stopped.
nice one. I wonder if this will work on ipod 12v chargers.. they make alot of noise. Where would I put the rings? what do you think?
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.
