A dilemma has arisen! I have just found out (as have other dock users) that the OCRDA have just changed their dates (why?) for their Caernarfon Jet Ski Racing (Aqua Adrenaline (!)) to 15-17 August. I am told that all hell is let loose (though others say it’s not that bad). They race about just by the dock gates around high water - just when we need to be there. We will be able to get in and out of the dock and past, I’m told, but may have to wait abit from time to time. The dock area will be busy overnight with camper vans and people whooping it up - not much of a ‘sailing vibe’ the Dock Master tells me!
Options: - carry on anyway and hope for the best (we will be given preference in the yacht club and any racers will be encouraged to go to the sailing club venue).
change our start date to the Thursday 14 or Monday 18 - a bit drastic.
turn right out of Felinheli (Port Dinorwic) and head round the island anticlockwise (I was preferring clockwise because we would follow the flood tide (later starts) and cover the more tidal areas (west coast) when the tides are smaller. (All weather permitting of course)
Does anyone have any experience of these events? I’ve asked them for their timetable (but not holding my breath). And I’m asking berth holders in the dock for any experiences and thoughts.
It is with regret that we won't be joining the Anglesey trip, sadly we have had to accept that Dexter is not a seafaring dog and whilst we have alternative arrangements for him for a weekend we can't manage a week, and just can't justify the travelling to Anglesey for a weekend.
We hope you all have an amazing trip and look forward to the pics!
Dear all, a quick update though there is not much to add.
We have 4 definites now which will be a nice number (possibly one more).
I haven’t yet confirmed with Paul at Dinas Boat Yard the times of launch - hoping for around 1300.
I am in correspondence with the Victoria Dock Dockmaster about the powerboat/jetski racing, I have the race time table and am hoping we can sneak by and head down to Abermenai Point if the weather is good. Ffion will keep me posted. If it turns out they have the power to actually stop marine traffic through the Strait - I might have to write a letter!
Fuel - there is petrol available in Menai Bridge at the waterside (around HW); also Holyhead (I might be able to arrange a fuel run through a friend); and, Beaumaris a petrol station a short row away - also around HW. I would encourage everyone to bring as much extra fuel as you can - petrol stations around Bangor and Caernarfon to fill up before launching.
The Caernarfon Harbour Trust website has useful navigation information about various local spots. We will plan for slack water where necessary. I have local charts which I will bring, also 2 copies of the local pilot “Cruising Anglesey and adjoining waters”. There is, I think, unless it’s out of print, a set of leisure charts for North Wales - for chartophiles.
I will set up a WhatsApp group say the end of next week for further details.
Hi Liz, I'm a definite yes please.
Maximus is a definite too...with Ros and Roly and Liz as stowaway! We might come a day or two early
Good - that's 2! Any more?
